Family-owned Pieroway’s Furniture to close permanently
Final liquidation is underway at both locations as owner prepares to retire
LUDLOW, Mass. (October 1, 2026) — After more than 60 years, Pieroway’s Furniture will close its stores in Ludlow and West Springfield. The family-owned and operated retailer has begun final liquidation with once-in-a-lifetime prices at both locations.
Pieroway’s Furniture has been part of the local business community for generations, with origins reaching back to the 1940s. Founded as Pieroway Electrical & Mechanical, the company sold and repaired household appliances. In 1966 Walter Wood purchased the business and expanded into the sale of furniture, bedding and accessories, transforming it into Pieroway’s Furniture.
Current owner Michael Ouimette began working at Pieroway’s in 1964 as a high school student. His early responsibilities ranged from maintaining the property to repairing radios and televisions, but what began as a student job became a lifelong career. Mentored by Walter Wood, Mike moved into sales and management positions until he purchased Pieroway’s Furniture from Wood in 1992.
The business became a family endeavor when Mike’s wife, Germaine, joined the company in the early 1970s, handling payroll and ordering. Over the years, their children also contributed in various roles ranging from repairs and sales to office support. Now in his early 80s, Mike is retiring after 62 years with Pieroway’s, closing a chapter that has connected his family with generations of customers throughout the area.
“After many wonderful years, it’s time for me to retire, and above all, I want to say thank you to Western Massachusetts,” said Mike. “Thank you for your trust, your loyalty and for making Pieroway’s Furniture part of your homes and your lives. Over the years, you’ve welcomed us into your homes, shared your stories and allowed us to help make your houses feel like home. It has truly been my privilege to serve this community.”
